Long before Instagram arrived on the social media scene, the social media curse had been growing.
What does this curse entail? And what is to be done about it?
The curse has been there since long before social media platforms were even in existence. People have been gossiping amongst each other for centuries already. Backbiting, backstabbing, naysaying, warmongering, hearsay, blatant lying and fabrications of other peoples’ lives, you name it, it has been happening for centuries.
The curse of social media is that it has turned this wicked act of gossip into an even more malicious and cowardly force than ever before. People are able to gossip behind your back. That is to say that you are a level-headed and sensible and mature human being who is only utilizing his or her Instagram platform for the purposes of growing a little business or spreading goodwill, or trying to help others in need.
Good likes and followers on Instagram traditionally sow the seeds of love if it can be put to you that way. Instagram has become a popular launching pad for all those who have positive views in response to all that is bad happening in the world today. Social media gossipers and hat speech vindicates are cowardly specimens of the human species if you can forgive the strong tone being taken here.
But it is a solid and salient reminder and a warning to not go there. Unfortunately, the curse does impact on you negatively, and it is very little you can do about it at the moment that someone spreads a malicious rumour about you or your business or fabricates lies about other peoples’ affairs that appear to implicate you. Fortunately, human nature still has its steely instincts. Whether you see this as being unfortunate, if you are inherently a peace-loving soul, is quite alright. But you can act on it.
Judiciously and vigilantly but always with a strong sense of composure and (still) heartfelt love for your fellow man or woman. The moment the bad news has been broken to you in the most unsettling manner, give it a day or two to sink in. By then, with little unsettling clues and shreds of evidence having been left about carelessly, you might be able to put two and two together. And then, as the levelheaded and responsibly and mature and good-natured person you are, you can set off on your way to do a little detective work.
Chances are good that you are not likely to locate the culprits on Instagram but check your platform just to make certain. And when you do locate the offending parties, you can simply drop them as followers. You need not give them any notice, you just do the deed and move on with your social media life. You should not even have to approach the offended person because, if she is mature and sensible enough by now, she should know that much about you.
